From the Desk of Lenden Webb

A Revised Video-to-Audio Transcription

I’d like to address the matter of emailing your attorney. In my mind, there are times and places for face-to-face meetings, for a telephonic conference with your attorney. I encourage any client, though, to strongly consider the use of email with your attorney. The number one reason is accountability.

Accountability, clarity, and also the natural by-product of this is cost savings for the client. When you communicate with your client in a written format, it’s transparent, it is recorded, it’s black-and-white what you are asking for.

There may be some clarification that is needed sometimes, but the attorney’s response to you is also, once again, black-and-white. The attorney has to be accountable for what they are putting in writing, and I believe it is a very strong tool for any client.

Rather than picking up the phone, talking to the attorney, wondering what was said, or trying to interpret later on, it makes much more sense for my clients (and I encourage all clients to do this) to email the attorney their questions. It also gives some clients some time for reflection and to make sure their questions are clear and well-worded.

I often find that the clients, as a result of this, are saving money because they are sending me better questions in a more well-thought-out manner that are well-laid-out with those details before they actually click on the send button.

Key Points:

  1. “I encourage any client to strongly consider the use of email with your attorney.”
  2. Emailing your attorney “provides accountability, clarity, and also, the natural byproduct to this is cost savings for the client.”
  3. Emailing “gives some clients time for reflection and to make sure their questions are clear and well worded, as a result, clients are saving money because they are sending better questions in a more well-thought-out manner.”
